Breast augmentation is one of the most common and popular cosmetic surgeries. It consists of increasing the volume of the breasts and giving them greater firmness with breast implants. The implants used are composed of either saline or silicone. The implant can be positioned under or over the pectoral muscle. Breast augmentation can also be combined with a breast lift.
Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
This procedure is designed to correct breast ptosis (sagging). It allows the nipple to be repositioned and to give a more beautiful shape to the breast without changing its volume. The addition of a breast implant can also increase breast size, if required.
Although breast implants don’t have a real expiry date, some complications may arise over time requiring removal of the implants. Implant rupture or capsular contracture are just a few examples of complications that may require a surgery. It is possible to consider an implant replacement if the patient wishes to maintain her breast volume.
